A passenger jet came metres from plunging into the sea in Turkey yesterday after it overshot the runway on landing.
The aircraft, which had taken off from Ankara and was operated by Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines, was landing at Trabzon Airport on Turkeyâs Black Sea coast when the hair-raising accident happened on Saturday night. All 168 passengers and crew aboard were safely evacua ted with only minor injuries reported, but as the sun rose on Sunday, it became clear how close they had come to a far bigger disaster. The aircraft came to rest at a steep angle with its nose just metres from the water. One of its engines then came free and tumbled into the sea.
