CBS boards Israeli show from 'Fauda' writers
CBS Studios International has announced it will co-produce a new Israeli TV series from the creators of the hit show Fauda.
According to reports in Deadline and Variety on Thursday, this marks the first non English-language production for CBS International.
The show, which was pitched earlier this year at Series Mania in France, is called District Y. The series was created by writer and producer Leora Kamenetzky and Liat Benasuly, who both worked on Fauda as well as False Flag (Kfulim). District Y's 10-episode run focuses on the murder of a Jewish girl in the mixed Jewish-Arab neighborhood of Jaffa. A local Israeli task force of Jewish, Muslim and Christian police officers must work together amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict which threatens to spin out of control in the mixed city.
The show is s lated to air on Israeli public broadcaster KAN. A spokeswoman for KAN declined to elaborate on the news on Thursday.
By joining the production, CBS will gain worldwide distribution and international remake rights for the series, according to Deadline.
Earlier this year, CBS announced it was adapting the Israeli show Ta'agad (Charlie Golf One) for American audiences. The Yes series, titled 68 Whiskey by CBS, is set to have its pilot directed by Ron Howard.
