This year’s festival will include a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel, with screenings of classic films made by late filmmakers, including Halfon Hill Doesn’t Answer by Assi Dayan; I Love You, Rosa, directed by Moshe Mizrahi and Menahem Golan; and Turn Left at the End of the World, which was produced by Leon Edery, who passed away this year. One of the festival’s special guests, Avi Nesher, who directed Turn Left, will be there to present the film.
Nesher will be awarded the festival’s IFF Cinematic Achievement Award, for his work and his most recent film, The Other Story, will open the festival. The Other Story just had its US premiere in the Masters Section of the Chicago International Film Festival. Israel’s leading filmmaker, Nesher has directed 20 award-winning movies that have been shown all over the world and have led the renaissance in Israeli cinema. Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productions, will receive the IFF Achievement in Film and TV Award.
